Any positive stories after sigmoid colectomy?

Am 42 year old male who has had five years of painful diverticulitis off and on.  I am scheduled for surgery in 5 weeks.  I am only reading horror stories and am wondering if anyone has had a good outcome after surgery.
I am in otherwise great health.  I have two small children and want to get back to a normal life soon after surgery

I too, have been very discouraged by all the negative comments. I have been told I need this surgery, but keep putting it off because of what I read! I wish you the best Michael on your recovery, and maybe you will let us all know if it is worth the recovery issues.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  There are many success stories with this surgery, but only the people that have had problems from the surgery are the ones that post their horror stories.  I hope someone who has had the surgery successfully will come on here to post.
