Blood found in Rectal Exam. Whats it mean?

I’ve been dealing with server nausea and diarrhea for about 5 weeks now and have undergone a slue of blood test and a urine and stool test, all have come up fine.  I went back to visit my regular Doctor today who did a Rectal Exam and found traces of blood in it.  I was just wondering if anyone knows what this might mean???  She said not to worry about it just yet and to make sure I talk to the GI about it when I go in to see him again.  Though he’s out of the office till Friday (which is why I went to my reg. doc today) with no covering doctor and they wont let me see anyone else because my health insurance is so bad.  When I went for my first visit it took forever to get an appointment.  Guess we’ll see, but I hope he can see me soon.

If you type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc you will see sites that list diseases that can be connected to rectal bleeding.  There are others too.

When you see your G.I. specialist I suggest you ask for the complaints that a colonoscopy will uncover and what additional tests can also be tried.

Thanks for your replay.  I think she just wasn't sure what it could be, and defiantly wanted me to talk to my GI about it.  Working on getting an appointment with a GI as soon as I can, He should be back in the office tomorrow or Friday.  But who knows what the soonest appointment will be.  I might have to up my insurance so I have more options for doctors.  Why is it that GI’s never have any immediate appointments?  It’s so frustrating.

Do you know what causes the colonoscopy might uncover???

Blood from the rectum should alsways be checked out.  I suggest that unless your doctor can positively assure you that the cause is minor such as haemorrhoids, anal fissure etc, then ask for a colonoscopy which is a more comprehensive test.
