46 yr. old female.   My doctor has said i have ulcerative colitis.  Was diagnosed 16 yrs ago. right after I had my second child.  Had problems after delivery.  Took meds for two weeks (sulfa drug).  Quit and haven't had problems till now.  Now.l..Feel like I have to have a bm and it is gas and when I wipe, blood & mucous.   No weight loss (unfortunately..I'd like to lose some!) not too much cramping..maybe sometimes when I feel I got to go.  But it's the mucous and blood tinge that bothers me.  Is this the ulcerative colitis or something else (cancer?).

If you're seeing 'red' in the mucus you need to check with your doc and request some testing. Mucus is normal, but when you're seeing an abundance, it means that it's being put out in larger quantities because it's trying to act as a 'protectant' of some sort to protect the inside of your lower GI tract. And if blood is present 'something' is going on especially if you're experiencing pains in your sides and back. Call your doc.
