Colonoscopy

Why was it too painful for me to continue with colonoscopy despite being sedated I now have to have a barium ennema instead Im qyite dissappointed I have to go through the rig marole all over again

My three children had to endure yearly colonoscopies due to an hereditary colon disease in the family.  They were always sedated and never remembered a thing.  My daughter still has to have one every 2 years until she is 40 (3 years), and she is always asleep.  My son has to have yearly endoscopies, and lower scopes and he is always asleep for this and remembers nothing.  I worked for 2 Gastroenterologists as well for many years, and they always had our patients asleep, and they remembered nothing.

They normally, but not always, give sedation not general anesthesia because of the risks and because it is unnecessary.  The exception of this is when the person is young which makes them hard to sedate.

They nromally give general anesthesia so that you don't feel anything.  I would find another GI and get your colonoscopy.  A Barium in not as good as a scope and they may miss something.

When I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy they gave me general anesthesia and intubated me and everything.  This was probably cause I'm young and have other health problems but it isn't unheard of to give someone general anesthesia for a colonoscopy.

Wow, I wonder why,. maybe they didn't give you enough medicine. I had one done last tuesday and didn't feel a thing.. It was great. My dr and nurses were wonderful...You should maybe talk to another gastro dr and get 2nd opinion.
