Could use some input on this?

Hi all, I'm a 26 year old man diagnosed with GERD. This all started a 3 years ago. I was sick: nauseous, vomiting, yellow urine and jaundice. My doctor ran a panel on me, I had elevated levels bilurubin. In a few weeks I recovered, and my doctor ran the panel again. Again I had no signs of Hepatitis or anything like that. He told me thought I might have a rogue mono virus.

Whenever you run my blood today, the bilurubin levels are still extremely high. In addition I've developed GERD, my doctor ran an endoscopy. I'm taking Protonix for my GERD, and it seems to suppress the stomach acid, but I sometimes feel like I'm getting a bitter taste in my mouth. Is it possible this is related to whatever liver problems I've been having? My doctor told me they're completely unrelated.

No, he never tested me for gallbladder dyskinesia. He did tell me I didn't have this disease called Gilbert's Syndrome, he tested my blood and we did the endoscopy. He told me I could get a liver biopsy, but that it wouldn't really change much. Do you think that's true? I think that is good input I'll follow up on that.

Has your doctor checked for the possibility of gallbladder dyskinesia? If your gallbladder isn't pumping right, you might have elevated leves of bilirubin. Sometimes, GERD is a symptom of this, unfortunately.

Ask your doctor about getting a CCK/HIDA scan to see what your ejection fraction is. If the number is below 35%, then you may have found the culprit.

That's not to say that other factors may not be playing into this, but this is certainly a possibility.
