Desperate for Answers!!!

I am desperate to help find answers as I watch my 78 year old father die before my eyes. He has suffered for the last 2 years. He has always been a health and exercise fanatic, which is why it's so hard to understand his decline. Over the last year and a half he has undergone 3 surgeries which we desperately hoped was the cause of his loss of appetite and discomfort. Surgeries include: repair of rotator cuff (7/07); hernia repair (7/08); gallbladder removal (9/08). Following each surgery, he still remained sick. This poor man has undergone every conceivable test: multiple colonoscopies/endoscopies, scans, MRI's, and numerous others I don't even know the names of. While I am glad that his tests have mostly proved negative, I am still frustrated to watch him continue to deteriorate and waste away before my eyes. He has gone from being a 6'4 235# man to a stooped, emaciated 165# man. While his tests with a gastroenterologist only revealed H pylori and candida in the esophagus. He has recently been diagnosed with "Leaky Gut Syndrome", candida in the colon, and a parasite. He has been receiving aggressive (and expensive) treatment with a new medical team that blends traditional and natural medicine. He still sees no relief and is totally losing hope. His greatest complaint is stomach discomfort from which he receives no reprieve. He can not sit (even to eat) because of the discomfort; lying down is difficult as well, so the poor man is constantly in pain. HELP, HELP, HELP!!!!

There is a guy in this this gastoenterology forum who goes by the name of "frangul."  Look for his post under "Sharp Stomach Pains."  He said that he went to a chinese dr who told him he had "too much yeast."  (yeast is candida)  He put him on a chinese herb (I think they were pellets) called, "Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Wan."  He gives the web site that talks about this herb and I think it may also tell how and where to purchase it.  He swears it got rid of his problem.

Hi, I'm a nutritionist.  The best thing your dad can do is stick with this team that blends holistic and traditional medicine.  If the stomach problem/pain is what bothers him the most, find a place that does a test called a Heidelberg Gastrogram (google this). It is a very, very easy test to take and it is also competely accurate.  People who have candida almost always have too little stomach acid.  He MUST have this test if he hasn't already.  Also, get him the book, The Body Ecology Diet, by Donna Gates.  Forget the chapter about eating for your blood type.  Some people believe this theory.  It's ****.  Ignore it.  But the rest of the book take very seriously, o.k?  As you have already been told, he needs to be on a good probiotic.  The best one that I know of is Primal Defense Ultra by Garden of Life.  Get the capsules. (You can learn why this is the best on the market by reading what it says about it in the book, The Makers Diet)  You can order them by calling 1-877-673-0224.  Or, you can buy them in the health food store (Compare which is cheaper).  The only sweetener he sould be using is Stevia.  I like "NOW" brand.  Absolutley no other sweetener.  By the way, in the book she also talks about eating "raw cultured vegetables."  Don't try making them youself.  It's too hard.  Buy them.  Get your health food store to order them for you if they don't already carry them.  They are made by a company called Rejuvenative Foods.  I like the "Vegi-Delite Zing Salad."  Always get the salt-free one (they make both).  And remember, God loves your dad even more than you do.  He is watching over him.  Pray for him.  And I will too.  Good luck!       Gina
