Digestive Issues from Nortriptyline/Pamelor Withdrawal

I have taken a low dose of Nortriptyline for several years. I tried getting off of the medication by weaning myself for several weeks. It caused stomach cramps and diarrhea, so I went back on the medication at about 2/3 of my dosage. It calmed down a tiny bit but is still far from normal. I have taken a couple months to decrease my dosage by only 3 mgs but it seems to be getting worse. Is there any bridging medication to help get me off of this? My psychiatrist doesn't seem very informed about my symptoms.

I had IBS-C prior to taking the medication, so this is new to me.  I was put on it for fibromyalgia pain and depression.

Was the medication taken for a GI issue in the first place, like cramping and loose stools? If so, it would seem that the condition continues to persist despite you're taking yourself off the medication in a slow and measured manner.
