Digestive -Pancreatitis -what digestive enzymes to take or not to take

I spent 3 days in hospital 2 months ago due to a very high amalyse of 1000. Was told I had acute pancreatitis. Scans showed no bile duct blockage. I am only 21 years old and not a heavy alcohol user.

My levels feel quickly and I was not very ill. Since then have had some mild pain on and off but have been watching my diet carefully. Currently my amalyse is 90.

I have been told to take digestive enzymes but seen that many of the combinations also contain amalyse. Should I be taking a digestive enzyme combination that has amalyse in it?

Also, over last few days have not had pain but have had oily and bloody stools. Still watching my diet.

When amylase shows up in the blood it's not being used to help digest your food. You should be taking the enzymes.

Pancreatitis can be chronic meaning it does not go away or acute meaning it stays for a few days and leaves.  You can be chronic and have flares of AP.    Chronic patients must take enzymes to help digest their food.  They often have oily stools that float.    Did they tell you that you have CP?    If so you should try to figure out the cause.  Some get it from high tryglicerides, cystitc fibrosis, drinking genetics or just idiopathic ( no cause).
