Diverticulitis Surgery & Alcohol

I have Surgery for Divers last year. I had not been drinking alcohol until for at least 9 months. I went and have a few drinks with friends from work 3 1/2 bottles of beer.,I stopped after that. My wife and I left for a road trip about 1 hr later in which she drove for the first (3) hours of the trip. I then began driving from that point on. I was later pulled over for speeding and was giviing a breath test. I failed the test and was charged with a DUI. I was stunned because i did not at all feel impaired, buzzed etc. It had been approx 4.5 hour since i have consumed any alcohol. This has baffled me since it happend and was wondering if the Surgery or Divers could have some how altered the way my body processes alcohol.

The amount of Alcohol whould have been a problem for anyone if they had immediately began driving etc. This was 4 or more hours after I had consumed any Alcohol. Even the Officers admited thet it was very unusual to have any detectable Alcohol in the system after this time period. This is why i posed the question. The strength is not important, 1 beer or one shot of Whiskey should take a max. of one hour for you body to process.

Thank you for you comment.

You don't have to feel 'buzzed' or even your judgment impaired to be over the limit, technically. 3 1/2 beers are probably about 3 'units' of alcohol, (depending of course on the strength of the beer, as some are stronger than others) -which does sound just a bit over the driving limit to me....
That would go over on the breath test.
