Diverticulitis

I had a colonoscopy on June 18th and was told some polyps were removed but everything else was fine.  Imagine my surprise to have to be admitted to the hospital on July 17th with severe lower right abdominal pain.  "Diverticulitis". After 3 days of IV antibiotics I still feel really weak and have pain. My question is, how long does this take to develop and how long till it goes away?  I don't trust the doctor who did the colonoscopy anymore because of this and I don't want to contact him about this until I have some answers.

eight weeks ago i had a sigmoidoscopy and the stem of a polyp removed. this week i was diagnosed in the ER with diverticultis. i was told last year that i had the diverticula but never had a problem. im thinking that this was caused by the sig. i think that there are other longer tem side effects to these procedures. i have to go back in 2 yrs for a follow up and am worried about that might cause. im thinking about getting a virtual colonoscopy insted. what do you think? rack

Hi Wanda, I am the poster about RUQ ache radiating around my r ribcage and down my back after my June 30 colonoscopy so I know how it feels to have something occur after you're told you're fine.  I saw my GI doc and told him and he just ran bloodwork then disappeared on vacation for a week.  The blood is "normal" as is every other ct scan xray and ultrasound I have had in the last 23 days.  I have been in mortal ache and no one knows why.  My question is: diverticulitis usually is centered in your lower left abdomen because I was hospitalized with it myself for 2 days a couple of years ago.  I want to know why we're not warned that totally unrelated health issues can happen after a colonoscopy.  I've been told that colonoscopys can "trigger" your dormant diverticulosis and make it active.  I hope you get some answers soon.
