Hi Mary...I was told to eat the "BRAT" diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). Not sure it controls it (depending on what your test results are), but that was the diet my doc put me on. Feel better soon.
Carcionid was sucsessfully treated?
Some patients withh carcinoid have diarrhea, other don't, depends mainly on the substance which the tumor secretes.
Yellow diarrhea suggests, that not enough bile is excreted with the stool, probably due to bile flow blockage within the liver or bile duct (bile gives a normal brown color to the stool). If there'e no bile, fats can't be absorbed, they reach the colon, irritate colonic wall and thus induce diarrhea. In this case stool would be pale, foamy, floating and sticky.
So, the general advice about the diet is: exclude as much fats as possible from the diet. You can have a fat-free diet trial for 3-4 days, and see, if diarrhea will improve. Here's advice what to exclude:

It's a trial, not saying you should stick with no fat diet, just to see, if this helps.
But.
You should find the cause of diarrhea, which seems to be a bile flow blockage. HIDA scan may show the state of your bile ducts. They inject a contrast into your vein, and monitor its distribution in liver and bile ducts.
So, what to do:
1. Stool fat test, which may reveal fat malabsorption.
2. Breath test. It's possible you have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), since your ileocecal valve was removed and bacteria from the colon were able to colonize small intestine. Bacteria eat the bile and cause bloating and diarrhea. Treatment is with antibiotics.
3. HIDA scan to check bile ducts.
4. Blood test for substances excreted in carcinoid
I am 67 years old and I have carcenoid cancer. My stool is light yellow. I really don't have any symptoms except some cramping sometimes. I was told every one that has carcenoid cancer has diarrhea, but are they losing weight? I had surgery in October 2006. My illececal valve & 14 inches of my intestines were removed. I weighted 172 lbs at that time. Now I weight 119 lbs and I am very very skinny. I am 5 ft. 9 inches tall, so I looked much better at 172 lbs then I do now. Can you help me?
How old are you, can you tell some other symptoms, how long it lasts, any pain, stool color etc.?
