Gastritis

I am a health 24 year old female but have reciently been diagnosed with gastritis. I have had it for about 6 weeks now. i have had blood test done and and ultrasound- both coming back normal. I am so ill i find it difficult to drink water let alone eat and am rapidly losing wieght. i have been put on 20mg omeprazole a day and anti neasea pills but they havent made much of a difference. im going back to my GP on Monday to get a referal to a gastroenologist. I am also going to ask to try a different PPI. Does anyone think that it is possable that a different PPI might help more then the Omeprazole? Also does anyone know if Helicobacter pylori will have shown up on the blood test or if it would require a enoscopy?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi Milo,
Thanks for replying. No my GP didn’t send me for that test but he isn’t very good really. Now im on the Omeprazole I would have to come off it for two weeks before they could do the breath test. I have now been sent for urgent referral to a gastrologist for an Endoscopy. It’s just about waiting now and trying not to worry about how much weight I am losing.
Once again thanks for your reply- its nice to know im not alone.

Hello Sam,
It has been my experience that any abdominal pain one has that they can't find a cause for they label Gastritis. I had similar types of problems and found that Gaviscon Foam tablets worked well for me along with the Omeprazole.
H. Pylori is a simple test. You just blow into a tube and you are done. Your GP suspects Gastritis and has not sent you for this test? Very surprising as it is usually performed at the same time that you go for blood tests.
Hope you feel better soon.
