I am a 21 year old female who has rarely been sick in the past. This June while I was in England I became extremely sick, sicker than I have ever been in my life. I was throwing up, had severe diarrhea, heart palpitations, and was unable to sleep. The first doctor I saw thought it was just a virus and gave me some anti-nausea medicine. The medicine stopped the vomiting, but I began to lose a severe amount of weight. Within a few weeks though, I was vomiting and had severe diarrhea all over again-- i didn't even make it to the bathroom one time. I had to be taken to the emergency room and had to have IV's put in me due to severe dehydration. The doctor couldn't get my heart rate lower than about 110 beats a minute. The doctor recommended that I see an American doctor as soon as I went home. Two days later, back in America, I saw my family practitioner that took some blood work. She said it showed that I had hyperthyroidism (which made sense, because I have had some eye problems in the past and because I had lost over a 10th of my body weight in less than a month). Unfortunately, I had several followups of blood work, all which came back normal.
Since then, I have still had bad diarrhea and nausea every morning. I wake up because the nausea is so bad and I have a horrible pain in my lower abdomen. I have a loss of appetite, but I have been making myself eat so that I can keep weight on me. I haven't vomited since the summer, but I almost have a couple times. I still have horrible heart palpitations, but i don't now if it is because the nausea/diarrhea/vomiting is making me nervous or not... do these seem like symptoms of hyperthyroidism or something related to gastroenterology. The nausea and diarrhea is getting really out of hand and it has been a struggle for me to keep my weight on. I don't want to have to deal with this for the rest of my life.
