Nausea - what tests can be done

My daughter suffers from chronic nausea and constipation.  She has an an endoscopy which showed nothing wrong.  What other types of tests should she be given to find the cause?

you are incorrect, nausea is a typical and common symptom of almost all types of egid's.  My daughter has eosinophilic gastroenteritis and eosinophilic  proctocolitis.

Hi there,

I am not a dr, but I suffer from chronic nausea too, so I could tell you what I know.

- Let herr blood toroughly tested on any disorders of the liver (like hepatitus), panvreas, cancer (just to rule out), infections, the bactery Helicobacter Pylori, malabsorption and hormones. (A disbalance in one of the hormones can cause nausea for example) and probably many other things.

- let her stool tested on parasites or bacteries.

- let hem make an X-tay of her stomach, to see if any organs look wrong.

- let them test her gallbladder. Diseases of the gallbladder can cause nausea. For example gallstones. I don't know exactly which tests there are available, but they can look on the x-ray for stones, and there is an ultrasound test and a HIDA-scan.

- I should definitely suggest a gastric emptying scan, to test for gastroparesis or   bradygastria.
You can find some information in the following article:

- Let them check her organ of balance.

- Another thought is a blocked or collapsed bowl, thus backing up into your stomach. Or even an motility disorder like spastic bowel. Because of the constipation.

- Personally, I was diagnosed for Eosinophilic Disorder, but right now they think it is maybe something else because nausea isn't a very common symptom after all, and nothing helped yet. But definitely let it rule out. It is very hard to diagnose. They should find eosinophilic cells in the esophagus, stomach or intestinals. It can be, they haven't found it, when they did the endoscopy, because: if you are not looking for it, you won't find it. (it took me a second scope) It is a nasty, but not dangerous disease.

More information of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGID): www.apfed.org

- It also could be a nervous system disoreder, so let a neurologist make a mRI scan of the brains.

Well, these are my thoughts. I know better than anyone in the world the torture of being nauseated all the time. So I really hope you will find some answers and your daughter feels better soon!
