Pain to the left side of my belly button. What could this be??

I'm an 18 year old male and back in December (12/8/08), I had Laparoscopic surgery for an appendicitis. Then about a month later (January), I noticed that my left side near my belly button was a bit swollen. You see, because I had laparoscopic surgery..one of the incisions they had to make was on my belly button.Any who, I noticed it was swollen, but I had no pain. Recently, about 4 weeks ago, I'm starting to get this dull/achy pain near the belly button incision.Coincidentally, the pain is in the area of the swollen spot next to my incision. I went to my doctor to find out what the problem could be..the doc did a rectal exam, and also took my urine samples. She didn't find anything. She even tried to help locate the area by touching and feeling around my stomach..and sadly the day I go to my doctor's office, I wasn't able to detect the pain.So now as we speak, I'm starting to get this pain again. From time to time I'm also getting these weird digestive noises in my stomach. My stool has started to come out soft and yellow as well.  I'm going to go to my doctor's again so she can at least assign me an x-ray or something. but my question is...Could this be a hernia?? I also should mention, that I commute to my school, and carry tons and tons of materials/books. Could I have caused a hernia? Or something else??
Thanks :)
OH! Here's a pic I found on the net..just to show exactly where the pain is :) It's located with the red box.

I just got my results from all different types of blood work, and stool samples. All of them came back negative, which is really good news. My stool is no longer having that yellow color. However, I still tend to get that annoying pain around my belly button area/incision. The pain hasn't gotten too severe. I'm wondering whether or not I should also request an X-Ray?

From seeing the area that it is in, it could very well be an umbilical hernia. The fact that you carry heavy material likes books and such also leads me to suspect a hernia. Also, have the doctor check your liver enzymes, sometimes when the liver is not working up to par, you will have yellow stools and some noise.

When I first read the post, my thought was scar tissue, and it still might be, you might want to mention that to her also.

Let us know how it goes.
