c diff

My wife is on her 5th bout of c-diff, we assume.  The first 3 were thought to be the flu. Now we got a positive test on the 4th and were prescribe flagyl.  By the time she starting taking the antibiotic, she was getting better.  Took it for 10 days and then it comes roaring back in 2 months like clock work.  Can you ever get rid of this infection?  She gets major stomach aches and cramping and vomiting.  Unforunately she cant eat anything not even water because she throws everything up.  Whats strange is that she gets no diarrhea, like most cases Ive read about.  The illness stays with her for about a week.  She has always been healthy and actice and rarely takes antibiotics.

Since she cant eat or drink anything for 5 days do you think it is wise to start some sort of acidopholis into her system?  Will this help with the flagyl or still cause her to vomit.  I know she needs to get good bacteria back into her system asap.

Whats more discouraging is that my yougest daughter age 12, gets the same problems 2 weeks after my wife gets it.  Has had it 5x as well.  Never tested positive yet though.  I understand it  may take 5-6 stool tests.

Does this ever go away?????

I got c-diff June of 2018 they would not test it because it was too thick, had cellulitis and was again put on zoxin got diarrhea again and my doctor tested me and it came back negative. Went on a trip to florida and had accidents in the car, the smell is very distictive. saw doc when I got home he got another sample and put me on vanco. I stopped having stomach problems immediatly althoud test still negative. shortly afterward I was hospitalied it started again. At first they wouldn't  test it but it kept getting looser. They did the test it was negative. Appartently they do 2 tests and the 2nd one showed positive.  I had so much that after the 9th  time  changing me in 3 hours they put in a rectal tube. I  did nothing but poop for 8 days. Had no appetite and docs didn't know why. I told them it was pretty hard to be hungry when you were sitting there pooping.. finally went home after 2 weeks it was cleared up. This has happened 2 more times. just getting over it again but next time I get antibiotic's I have this problem Thinking about asking for fecal transplant. getting really sick of diapers. als,o did you use probiotics did they work?

Buffet, if what your wife has is C. diff a 10 day course of flagyl may not be the best therapy for the problem. In many, flagyl doesn't knock out the condition and a specific antibiotic, vancomycin, has to be used.

If you're not working with an infectious disease doc please consider doing so. Many regular physicians are not up-to-date on the problem and it's treatment, and many not be able to knock it out.
