Seton for anal fistula

my doctor says that he doesn't need to tighten up the seton after I had surgery two weeks ago, but I have been reading eerywhere that it needs to be tightened.  So does this mean my doctor doesn't know what he is doing? Does the seton really have to be tightened. he sasid the elastic will disappear in a couple more weeks and the hole should close on it's own?

ok so that means that she didn't get the elastic tightened either...I know it is heling I can see the difference from the day of surgery til now and it looks better but I was more curious t know if the actual seton elastic has to indeed be tightened for it to completely heal

I don't want to claim to know the answer to your question but I can say that my mother had the same surgery and she too thought it was not healing right so she returned to the surgeon soon after.  She was told by the surgeon that everything would heal up over weeks but thought the dr did something wrong.  Eventually everthing did heal up.

Hope that helps in any way.  I was my mother's caretaker and know how difficult this issue can be.

Take care.
