Where are all you experts?

I can't believe that no one on this forum has had some experience with or treated someone with the same symptoms my wife has.  I'm really frustrated trying to get her some help.  Her local doctor has thrown in the towel,,,,he hasn't a clue.
See the symptoms she has been experiencing for weeks now.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My wife, age 70,  awakens in the morning and experiences nausea when she gets out of bed. She has had all kinds of tests of potential causes of these symptoms in her abdominal area(Endoscopy, HIDA scan, CAT scan, Inner ear test, etc) and all are normal.  Blood tests are normal. She has been experiencing it for several weeks. No fever and rarely has to vomit.
She has no appetite, but will eat and drink. Some relief comes after she eats a little breakfast, but whenever she gets active again, the nausea returns.
Medicines for nausea like Meclazine, Dimenhydrinate, Dramamine, and Zofran appear to have little/no effect on the nausea.
Has anyone had similar experience or has any doctor treated similar conditions?

Thanks for your note.  I've checked her blood  pressure first thing in the morning a couple of times, and it's normal, good in fact.  She doesn't feel faint, just nauseous.

It's also possible her blood pressure is rather low when she awakens in the mornings.  I had a relative who was middle-aged that would pass out when rising and nobody knew why.  So, for a while, in the mornings they just sat on the side of the bed for a while, head down a little bit, feet pushing down on the floor (so the blood to flows quicker to the brain), and they could get up without fainting.  While your wife is not fainting, she could have low blood pressure, and the subsequent dizzy feeling can make a person sick to their stomach.  Low blood pressure can also indicate internal bleeding, too, so that's another avenue to consider.

Also, I had a friend who ate their main meal in the middle of the day on weekends, and they felt faint in the mornings.  So, if her eating is like that, she can eat more at dinner, or she could also have her blood sugars tested in case she's got a diabetic thing going on.

Also check in Celaics Disease.  This is an autoimune disorder where the body is no longer able to digest a protein called gluten.  Celiacs disease is commonly misdiagnosed as IBS.  Common symptoms are vomiting, bad gas pains and bloating, hands and feet sting/burn and ache.  Regular blood tests are very inaccurate and the best way to see if she improves is to remove all wheat, barley, rye and flour from her diet.

This includes all bread, beer, cake, salad dressing, croutons, ketchup and so on.  Basically she will be limited to fresh fruits, vegetables and meat...chicken, pork, turkey and steak.

Hope this helps.

I just watched a show on mystery diagnoisis where a young girl(22) was throwing up and constantly nauseated. She had all the same tests as your wife had and had her gall bladder and appendix removed. Nausea medicine would help some what but symptoms would return. She was finally diagnoised with a pressure problem where the pancreatic duct was constricted causing bile to back up in pancreus. They run a tube down your throat and messure the pressure in the opening. If you look on this site under gallbladder there is abetter explanation of this. Something to do with odi syphinter?? Check that out. Hope your wife gets better. Good luck.

You got me.  I posted an item a few months ago and a doctor responded, so I thought they all looked at these postings.  Thanks to your advice I finally figured out the "expert" route.  Thank you.

Hi - personally I cannot offer any suggestions but then please remember that participants on this forum are not medical experts but well-meaning fellow-sufferers or ex-patients who may have some amateur observations based on similar medical experiences to those of your Wife.

May I suggest that you re-post your question on the "ask a doctor/expert" part of the G.I. forum.  You will surely receive the professional assessment that you seek. Also I suggest that you ask Dr Pho whether he can recommend a leading Medical Centre that could re-examine your wife starting from scratch.

Good luck
