For 3 years I have had recurring episodes of sulphurous burping with accompanying epigastric burning pain and severe bloating, which is relieved only by vomiting (sulphurous smelling undigested food remnants and bile). Each episode lasts anywhere between 1 day and 5 days, but I have learned that vomiting early on, then not eating until all sulphurous traces have vanished from my breath, will hasten recovery. It used to be accompanied by diarrhoea (green/yellow coloured) but is no longer. Instead, I have chronic constipation (pellet like stools) which is not helped by increased fibre and copious fluids, or even stool softeners. I have identical symptoms to a child who I visited about one week before coming down with my first bout of what has turned out to be an ongoing illness. The child has had precisely the same symptoms fo rmany years. Each of us develps these episodes cyclically, to roughly the same time frames. Mine recur approximately every 6-8 weeks. The longest I have gone without an episode (when not on any "treatment) is 10 weeks. My sister developed exactly the same symptoms 5 days after I paid her a visit, when I had been recovered from an episode for about one week. She went to the dr and was given Flagyl, which immediately stopped the symptoms - and she has not had a recurrence since. I was not treated the first time I developed the symptoms (I thought it was just a bout of gastro) and I am guessing the child was not either. I have seen 4 different gastroenterologists and had almost every test there is to have, the only abnormality being lactose intolerance (which I had before any of these symptoms developed). My stools show raised levels of cholesterol, meat and vegetable fibres and when tested midst bout, raised fecal alpha antitrypsin. Metametrix has identified parasitic DNA of unknown type. Immunologists and Infectious Diseases specialists have run numerous tests and found nothing identifiable. I have seen EVERYONE I can think of. I have been on multiple courses of metronidazole/Flagyl/Fasigyn in all its various doses and protocols, without success. The ONLY thing that has worked, and even then for only several months while I was taking it, was Paracea (for parasites). Does ANYBODY have a clue what this is or how it can be identified and treated? Please? Is there a centre that I could go to that does research on this type of thing? This illness is terrible, and it seems that nobody can help!
