abdominal health

From august to december 2008 i studied abroad in New York(from Ireland). I became increasingly more active tyhan what i usual am and ate less and went from 150lbs to 138lbs. This weight loss was not planned. Since i returned home i have put the weight i lost back on and am back to my regular sports training and everything is the same as it was before i left except ever since i returned i have had abdomen issues.

1.under my rib cage there appears to be an internal lump. its more tender some times than others and seems to swell when i eat. this is not alays the case though. this tender lump and its symptoms might subside for a few days and come back again.

2.Since im highly active i dont have probl;ems going to the toilet and excrete everyday without fail. more lately though it has been soft and 'running' through me.

3.i have had increased gas ... and its smelly!

4. lyph nodes on both sides of my neck have been swollen but not tender since last october.

could my stomach issues be related to the weight gain ot could this be perhaps a food intolerance etc??
stomach issues run in the family. my mam and grandad have terrible stomach issues. my mam has multiple issues-iIBS,hiatal hernia, other female issues that make her intolerant to food such as wheat and dairy and caffine.

any insight? thanks

Ncef, is your mom celiac? You mentioned an intolerance to wheat. To me, that means celiac disease. And if she's also unable to tolerate dairy could means she's celiac with a cross-reactivity to casein the major protein in dairy.

If your mother is celiac, you should be tested for the problem. It's an autoimmune disease that runs in families. It may or may not show up at birth. But these days, more and more adults are finding out they're 'silent celiac.'

If you've got an actual lump, it could suggest a hernia. Get it checked out.

Hmmmm... again (as I seem to state in all my posts so far LOL) check with a doctor.  If there is a history of GI problems in your family you may become more suseptable than most people to problems.  You might was to be checked for hernias, tumors (because of the lumps), gallstones, bacterial overgrowth in the small intestines, and maybe throw in allergy tests for every food allergy known to mankind! LOL  It is possible to develop an allergy to something you previously didn't have a problem with.  I do wish you the best and KIT if you like!
