diarrhea for past 6 weeks

I was orginally diognosed with viral gastro at the same time as having a yeast infection and a cold/flu bug.  Was given antibiotics and felt better for about 2 weeks.  Then I had sudden severe vomitting, stomach pain and diarrhea back.  Ended up in hospital as I couldn't eat or drink and the did a scan on my tummy which came up negative.  Again I was put on some more antibiotics (they thought I had a Urine Infection) and was starting to feel better over the course of a few days and was eating more and more each day (I was also taking a probiotic). Thought everything was back to normal when yesterday morning I woke with the bright yellow diarrhea again (some time it looked like undigested food), tummy pain, nausea and I couldn't even force myself to eat.  Last time I saw the doctor she thought it was probably still just gastro but would it come and go and be persistant like this?  I did give her a poo sample with came back negative but it was my first after not eating anything for days and was just after I'd been in hospital.  Is it possible I have ghardia or some type of parasite that just didn't show up in the first sample? I am usually very healthy and have never been sick like this before or had any issues with my stomach or bowels.  I have also had blood tests done which all came back within range. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

So the GI said it is post infectious IBS which should clear up on its own. I was doing really great until yesterday when I suddenly felt nautious again & the diarrhea came back and now i have severe pain again just bellow my ribs. The pain is so bad i haven't been able to sleep at all and now i cant even force myself to eat again. My stool thismorning though was soft but still formed and a darker brown colour. Could it be the IBS causing the pain? I want to go back to the specialist but I am guessing I will be in for quite a wait before I can get in :(

Thanks for your help. Yes I have been on a probiotic which did help a little but I am still having the same issues and am unable to eat much, some days nothing at all. I am on a low-fibre diet to give my digestive system a rest. My doctor is thinking Post Infectious Colitus which will hopefully clear up eventually, but I am off to the GI doc Monday to also get their opinion. I am just so tired of brig sick and want to be well again :(

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, the main side effect of antibiotic medications is diarrhea, this is because this medicine tends to kill the normally residing flora in the gut like lactobacillus acidophilus (good bacteria) that helps with digestion. This can result in diarrhea. So, your loose stools could be due to the therapy. For this you need to take probiotics to replace this bacteria. You can get some good organic yogurt and take it with your meals and see if it helps. Regards.
