polyps in lower GI track

Hi, I just had polyps taken out last Fri and the Dr said she didnt like the way they looked.
I got the test back yesterday and it was precancerous. I know pre is better than cancer
and it will take awhile to turn all the way. The Dr said she will check them again in 4 to 6
months to see if she will have to burn them again. My pcp said if they are have my colen
taken out or part of it. My concern is what if it spreads faster than 4 to 6 months and is
there more I can do to help myself not get worse, food ,ect, ect, ect! I need to know how
to deal with all this as the person with it, not the Dr who says what to do with it  next!
Please let me know if any one can?

                                                                                   Thanks again,
                                                                                    sister mtt

I have to say that, I would trust your own instincts and if you feel you would like it sooner as in maybe 3 months. Don't hesitate to have it done as along as your can afford it. I have been prone to polyps since i was 16. several removed and 2 precancerous. My dr said he sees no reason for another colonoscopy for 3 yrs. I will go back in 1 year. If not sooner. I have many complications with my colon. I personally also think that precancer/possible cancer has a mind of it's own. Not to scare you..but for piece of mind, tell your doctor you'd like to have it done sooner and she their response.

Just a thought.
Best to you.

I believe that colon cancer generally only occurs around - or later than - age 40.

If you are 40+ I guess that I would arrange the next colonoscopy after 3 months and 30 days - if you are younger than 40 I guess you could allow the full 6 months to elapse.

I do think you are entitled to ask your doctor "is there a chance that between now and my next examination in 4-6 months, these polyps could worsen dramatically such that a full recovery is less than 100% certain??".

I would also ask the question about whether a modified diet could also help.  I am sure that processed foods with additives etc (as opposed to organic fresh fruit and vegetables + lots of fibre) are better avoided.

By the way I underwent a total colectomy four years ago.  You might have seen my other postings to patients who were contemplating this operation elsewhere on Medhelp -but please do lodge another posting (or send a message/email) if I can answer any questions if/when colon surgery is envisaged in your case.

Good luck
