when will lipase & amylase back to normal range after pancreatis

My gall bladder was removed 25 yrs ago.I had abdominal pain 10 days ago.  My Doctor think I have pancreatis. Blood test showed Lipase level was 1412 & Amylase was 273.  Three days ago, I had my 2nd blood test done, Lipase down to 382 & Amylase down to 273.  but both of them still within the high level range.  What can bring Lipase & amylase down to normal.  What kind of food I should avoid? Should I eat light for 3 more weeks?

Hi there!

The lipase and amylase are secondary factors and would settle as the pancreatic inflammation settles down. Since the tests have shown improvement the inflammations is likely to be improving. Management of pancreatitis would involve bowel rest with TPN, antibiotics, nutritional support, adequate pain management etc. It may take a few days/ weeks for the inflammation and the enzymes to settle. I would suggest discussing the management plan in detail with your treating doctor.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
