Stumped - Feeling “off”

I’m a 42 yr old male. 6’, 185 lbs. About two weeks ago I experienced a Migraine With Aura, which I get all the time, roughly once a month over the last ten years. However, this one came with an added scare.

About 15 minutes after it started, I began to have trouble reading and understaning English (native language.) About ten minutes later, I couldn’t find words and had difficulty forming sentences. I went to the ER and had difficulty describing what was happening, but I was nearly blind and couldn’t make sense out of my speech and was completely confused. They immediately thought I was having a stroke and wheeled me back for a CT scan.

Results:

CT Scan: Normal
Brain MRI: Normal

Diagnosis: Complex Migraine

It’s a week+ later and I still feel off. I’m sluggish, feel a little vertigo, things that I focus on (visually) are clear but shifting focus to another object takes considerable time, causing dizziness, double vision, and panic. I also feel like I could close my eyes and fall over/pass out at any time. Minor nausea is sometimes present but no vomiting as of yet.

My whole body is weak, back hurts, and I’m irritable.

Any clues as to what might be going on would be great.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about t his as that is very debilitating.  What kind of medication do you take for migraines?  I'm glad your ct scan was clear and it wasn't stroke but you need good solid care for the migraine issue.  Do you see a neurologist?  It's time to follow up with your regular doctor or if you haven't been followed by one, start NOW.

Haven’t seen a neurologist yet, but I am soon. The odd thing is that there is no pain with my migraine with aura, just the visual affects before, but now the cognative affects as well.
I've suffered migraines and they usually hurt like a mother.  Although my sister in law told me about a type of migraine that boys get (males . . . she has sons, so we were talking about boys).  They vomit with it, visual, etc. without the typical headache pattern.  She said they were abdominal migraines.

There are 7 types of migraines and it sounds like  you suffer one of these which is a migraine without headache.  I think if you see a neurologist they will understand exactly what you describe and be able to treat you.  Make that appointment soon and let us know what happens!
