Elephant legs

I am not obese, do not have high bp, or diabetes.  I did have a transfusion about 3 months ago for low hemo.  My ankles are so swollen as are my calf and thighs.  I called my Dr and the nurse told me to drink a lot of water. Is there some over the counter pil I can take.
I am 59 yrs old; female.

"Drink more water?"  You need to be SEEN by a physician to rule out WHY you have this swelling; this is NOT a good thing at all.  There is NO over the counter pill to take for this.  Repeat: you need to be seen by a physician asap!!!!  Sounds like something vascular is going on.

If it gets worst, I would recommend seeking emergent care.

Thank you for your advice.  I will take your advice even though I absolutely hate going to my doctor. He is an idiot and I need to find a new one.  Would it be appropriate just to go to the ER.  I was having shortness of breath yesterday.  I have stayed off my feet and my legs and thighs have gone down some but my ankles/skin huts like a bruise.  I am 5'7" and my normal weight is about 120. I bet I weigh 135 as I cannot get into some of my clothes.  It is not from eating because I cannot seem to eat my stomach hurts and feel hard and full.  Again thank you for your response.

You have to be seen by a  vascular doctor and have a Doppler performed NOW
until you see the doctor when in bed keep your legs up on a few pillows and don't sit around to much

I would recommend seeking emergent care especially if you are having shortness of breath.  Definitely sounds like something vascular.

Secondly, get rid of that incompetent physician.
