How long will the numbness last?

Hello guys,

I went to the ER the other day for excruciating back pain, I was diagnosed with sciatica. I was given 2 injections, one in each hip, and a valium. Soon after the injection I started to become numb in both legs. I went home thinking it would wear off bt it didn't. I went back to the ER, this time a different one, they told me it was possible that the nurse who injected me had hit my sciatic nerve and prescribe me with medrol dose pack.  It's day two of the dose pack and I am still numb. Can someone please give me answers. It is nerve wrecking not knowing.

I hope the steroids are now beginning to work.

Thank you so much for responding. I was thinking the steroids was suppose to start working right away. So I'll be patient and hopefully it kicks in soon.

Hello RMos,

I'm sorry to hear about your numbness. How long it last is anyone's guess. i If it's an inflamed nerve the steroids should begin to kick in. Steroids  can take 48-72 hours before they become effective. Our systems are all different. It may take a few days longer.

It's interesting that the symptoms are bilateral. If it's from the injections that would mean the nurse hit a "nerve" with both injections. That's more difficult than it sounds... and in my opinion not likely but I'm far from an expert.

Be sure to follow up with your PCP.  You need to determine for certain what is causing the numbness. I wish you the best and hope you'll let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,
~Tuck
