Mother had bad fall, has horrible taste and smell

My mother has had a real nasty fall a few months ago which fractured her skull, she was in hospital for 5 days on morphine for the pain... shortly after coming out she had really bad smell when she smells stuff and really horrible taste when she eats food..

we done some googling and it looks like she may have a CSF Leak (Cerebro-Spinal-Fluid leak) - she describes the taste coming from the very back of her nose/throat, when she smells food she smells/tastes this horrible rank smell..

we told her to go to GP and he sent her to ENT and when she arrived they didnt even know what she was there for? they shoved a camera up her nose and said they couldnt see any tears?  now im sure that a camera up the nose is not enough to tell if one definitley does not have as tear in the dura - a CT/MRI scan would be essential?

she said when she seen a GP before that one and explained to him he simply said "its because of your accident" and "will take 1 year to get better"

when she was in hospital she could not remember anything they told her and when I asked the head nurse to tell me she wouldnt without Dr's permission who was never around on visiting hours  - they told my sister she had bruising on the brain and a blood clot...yet when confronted about this later they say she hadnt, yet my sister and my mothers partner swears blind thats what the first GP said after she was admitted, she was moved around 3 wards during her 5 day stay and had a different GP each time. the NHS is a joke!

CAN ANYONE VERIFY THAT THIS COULD BE A CSF LEAK OR COULD IT BE SOMETHING ELSE?

thanks

the antibiotics were just 7 days while she was in hospital 3 months ago...

she does get bad heads... especially after leaving the hospital for weeks on end..

the thing is my mother doesnt help herself much either, i have to PUSH her to get too dr's and she doesnt take the paperwork i gave her to show GP and cant remember anything they tell her or which GP it is... she gets dates mixed up and missed one appointment... this makes it awkward. I dont drive and health health and anxiety problems myself and live 20 miles away so cant be close to help her... I have other sibilings that do drive and one lives a few doors down but they dont speak but when they were she wasnt bothering her arse to help my mother get treated correctly -

if she drops down dead from meningitis they will regret it.

Wow, it sounds like your mother's doctors are not being helpful in the least.  It is my understanding that a CSF leak causes terrible headaches, headaches that improve when you lay down or tilt your head back for awhile.  If your mother is not in pain, she probably doesn't have a CSF leak.  Tthe antibiotics she took might be causing the changes to her sense of taste and smell.

...sorry, she see's a different GP each time at her surgery, temps that fill in, waste of time IMO - thats why I said "2nd Dr" as she is not seeing a regular GP

...to add

she has a BASAL Skull Fracture - the Dr said her skull is pressed into her brain where it is bruised - they gave her 7 days Anti-biotics during the hospital stay - she says the 2nd doctor she had a CAT scan while she was in hospital;?? - maybe they could tell from that? who knows.. just doesnt sound good too me
