Should I be worried about infection spreading from my ingrown toenail?

8 or 9 years ago I had two ingrown toe nails and went through minor surgery to get them removed. A week or two ago I noticed my other big toe was going the same way. I then noticed an infection starting to grow in the area as it became inflamed, very red and there has been a lot of pus coming from the infected area. I tried phoning my doctor but they said I wouldn't be able to have a doctors appointment for 3 weeks. I explained that the infection was getting worse and that I don't think it would be good to leave it that long so they suggested going to the walk in centre. I decided I would go in 2 days time when I finish work earlier but I'm worried I might need to go sooner. I have been reading up on blood infections and how dangerous they can be. I am wondering if that could happen so severely within two weeks. My heart is beating faster but I'm wondering if that is anxiety through worry and I don't have a fever. Thank you in advance.
