Seriou increase in cholesterol after taking Effexor??

I am a 42 year old woman 5'5" 150 lbs--with no family history of high cholesterol . My blood pressure is 110/60 I eat right and exercise a couple times a week=----I have always considered myself in good health and my "Numbers" regarding cholesterol have always been EXCELLENT---my total cholesterol was 179 with HDL of 66 and LDL of 97--that was two years ago--After two years on Effexor without any drastic changes in lifestyle or weight now Levels are now through the roof---
total 374
HDl-60
LDL-270
I can only believe that this is either a test error or the EFFEXOR---
I think I am going to get a recheck and if the numbers are still bad then I will get  off the Effexor and have a recheck again
How can my numbers Double in just two years????????

My total cholesterol was normally between 150 and 170. When it jumped to 255 I was shocked and my Dr kept threatening to put me on meds to bring it down. I decided to quit the Effexor because of this problem, higher blood pressure, having to have my gallbladder removed while taking this med and exhaustion. I was checked again in about 3 months after quitting it and my numbers were coming down nicely. This was with no diet changes since I already ate healthy. Now my numbers are very good. So I know it was the Effexor that caused them to be high.
Spencerstafford, how long has your wife been off the Effexor? Hopefully some other members here can help you with this. I'm really surprised her numbers have went up since quitting this med.  Remar

Effexor can raise your cholesterol. I went through the same thing as you several years ago when I was taking it. Now they put this as a possible side effect of this med in PDR's. Once I got of this med my numbers went right back to normal. I would recommend getting one more test done and if your numbers are still high get off the Effexor.  Remar
