Hello,
I am taking clomipramine 200 mg, clonapin 1.5 mg daily and seroquel 450mg for severe ocd and other conditions. I have gained a lot of weight and my stomach became huge. I eat a lot and I am always hungry. I don't want to stop my medications because I used to be mentally paralyzed without them.
Has anyone been successful with maintaining and/or losing weight while on Seroquel.
Often with mental medication two things can happen.
1. You get hungry, and have dry mouth which your body tells you, "hey give me something, and sugar works the fastest". Try drinking a huge glass of water 16 to 24 oz, and wait for 30min to see if your still hungry. My meds make me super thirsty, and have horrible dry mouth. I use Biotien and drink a lot of water.
2. If your OCD seems to be getting worse tell your Dr about this? Your meds could need to be adjusted, or sometimes your body does that for you and it causes you to become more OCD, but now with hunger in mind DO NOT STOP YOUR MEDICATION WITHOUT TALKING TO A DR FIRST. I cannot stress that enough. If you do, you could be asking for trouble.
lastly, Bipolar meds are known for weight gain, due to fluid retention.
This link from the mayo clinic is a good place to start.
