Should I be worried about a small lump on the back of my neck?

I'm 15 years old, female, and found a lump on my neck not long ago. It's small and sort of firm, but not hard.  It is located on the upper right side of the back of my neck, close to my hairline. There is noticable but not unbearable soreness if pressure is applied to it. It has been there for a while, but not exceeding two months. It seems to have gotten smaller since I found it. I haven't been experiencing any symptoms that worry me. I recall first finding it at the start of the time when I usually begin to get allergy symptoms every year, sometime after the rest of my family. I don't feel ill, but still I feel this may be cause for worry. Is it?

It may just be a type of acne spot.

We can also get moles on the neck and with it being near your hairline it is highly likely that you may be catching it with your comb or brush.

Make an appointment to see your doctor so that he can examine it.  If it is a type of acne spot, this will settle down and go in time.  If it is a small mole, your doctor can remove it at the surgery.  It is a very painless procedure.

Because you cannot see it, it is best to get it checked out.

It may be a minor cyst or similar concern. The fact that it started when you have allergies each year may or may not be related. However only a doctor
could provide an exact diagnosis but it would be worth seeing one. In the meantime avoid putting any pressure on it as even if its a minor concern
that will worsen it.
