Should I switch primary care physicians?

For the first time in many years, I went to a primary care physician to do a physical and wellness exam. At first, I was overall satisfied with the experience. However, as time goes by there have been many red flags, to the point where I am no longer comfortable continuing forward with this doctor's office.

First, there is a huge problem with follow-up. After receiving the results from my bloodwork, the office called me to discuss them (which I felt was odd, but not a big deal). Half-way through discussing my results (not with the doctor, but who I'm assuming is either a nurse or office aid), the lady claims I may have a possible UTI, and would discuss with the doctor before calling me back. She never called back.

Being busy with work, I decide to call back about a week later to follow-up on the fact that no one ever called back, and also to disucss my prescription. The lady on the phone claimed my prescription would be sent to the pharmacist, but failed to mention when the prescription would be ready. So I call back, and she states it should be ready immediately.

A few days later, I go to pick it up to find the prescription is nowhere in their data. I call the office back, to which the lady states that she will resend the prescription, then hangs up on before I can ask all of my questions. I call back to ask for an estimate for when it would be ready (later that day, the next day, a week from now--anything), to which she quickly responds to try in 10 to 15 minutes, and then call back if the prescription did not go through.

Between the failure to call back, give appropriate time frames, and follow-up, I am just unsatisfied with the professionalism of the office. Although my needs are simple and undemanding, everything is such a task because nothing seems to be done properly. The one problem is is that the doctor has prescribed me a supplement, which I am to take for 12 weeks and then follow-up with an office visit. Although I really would like to switch physicians, would that be possible given my circumstances? Thank you in advance for your help.

By all means, find another PCP as soon as possible. I would not tolerate this kind of treatment.

I think it would be best to at least do this next follow up with the same doctors office, since this doctor knows the history at this point with this issue.  Then if you are still dissatisfied, I would switch.  Maybe tell your doctor your concerns with the office staff too.
