also look up "Piriformis syndrome". a muscle in the pelvis that pushes onto the leg nerve. it gets worse when seated.
No, none of those things. I'm actually in pretty good shape.
nothing else? excessive sweating? weak bladder? any values out of range in blood tests? back pain after bowel movement? muscular weakness or loss of muscular mass? sort of drowsiness or Frontotemporal , brain cortex symptoms?
it doesn't sound like you have spinal disc herniation but the first thing you should do is MRI lumbar, it's harmless and inexpensive.
Not really.
It was one of those things where I had it off and on in the past but didn't think much about it. Wrote it off as a normal cramp after sitting for a long period of time. Butt sore. But then around Thanksgiving, I noticed that in addtion to the butt, the back of my leg down to the knee felt uncomfortable while driving, and that's when I decided that this wasn't normal. At first attributed this to aches from running everyday. So no, nothing really stands out as abnormal. More of a gradual, insiduous start.
As for symptoms it's pretty much: 1. lower back off and on aches, especially if I'd sleep on my stomach; 2. Pain in the buttocks on the right side only; 3. Pain from buttocks down the back of the leg to the knee; 4. in the begining the pain was in the hip and down the outside, but havent' had this for months. The pain would be maybe a 3 on a scale of 1 to ten. In no way horrible, but after a few hours you get sick of it.
there is no way that sitting for a long time could cause irreversible damage...
sciatica is usually linked with spinal disc herniation. I figure that you have no reason to believe you could have caused one or more.
x-ray can give you indication on distance between discs.
MRI can show exactly if there are spinal disc herniations.
MRI with contrast I think is needed to show inflammation of the spinal cord, not sure.
Sciatica can be caused also by other problems, non discogenic causes of sciatica.
Piriformis syndrome, Radiculopathy, neurological problems, etc.
do you remember of anything unusual happening to you before the problem manifested? do you have other symptoms?
