Swollen and Painful Underarms

I've had swollen and sometimes painful lumps in my underarms. I think I've had the swollen lumps since I was 9yr old perhaps. The pain is more like a tender achy feeling and only hurts when I touch them. My mother dismisses it and says it's most likely from wearing under-wire bras all the time. I have not visited a doctor for this problem, nor have I visited one for a very long time. The reason for that is that I do not have insurance or money to visit one. I don't know if these are contributing factors to my condition but I am more or less 20 pounds over weight and a heavy smoker.

I know that I should go get checked out for this problem, along with many others that I have. I just really want to know if there is any way that I could temporarily subside the pain. Would putting ice on it help? Or should I stop wearing under-wire bras?(That would be hard considering those are the only types I own.) This pain is very uncomfortable, and also makes wearing tank tops or other tops that don't cover the lower underarm area, very embarrassing. I need a solution that will help with the pain a little until I can see a physician. Some suggestions will be much appreciated.

I would see a doctor, lumps in the area you mentioned could be a sign of something more serious. I know it cost a lot to go, but, it could be cheaper than a stay in the hospital due to something serious.

Do you wear aerosol deoderant?  This happened to me once, went to Dr., he asked if I used aerosol, I stopped using it and it cleared up.

It sounds like you have a problem with your lymph nodes. This could be an allergic reaction to the type of deodorant you wear, or something more serious. You should probably be checked out by a doctor to be safe. Under-wire bras would not cause this problem.

be careful b/c u have lymph nodes it that region and if they are inflammed it could be a sign of more serious issues. on the other hand if these lumps are more like boils you may have HS
