tingling on lips around the mouth

I've been having a tingling feeling around my lips and occasionally on the tip of my nose.  Its been going on for the last couple of month and usually lasts a few weeks then goes away for a few weeks.  The "tingling" place changes all the time and it will be really intense for a couple hours and then go away for a couple hours.  It’s not always tingling, sometimes is kind of like a sharp pain or sometimes I can just feel "something" on my lip.  I don't have any sores so I don't think it can be a cold sore (and I've never had a cold sore in the past).  It’s quite annoying; does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Unfortunately, it does not sound simple. The most likely cause is neuropathy or nerve damage. Because it comes and goes, it sounds more likely to be early signs of an autoimmune disorder rather than a stroke.

But if you have any numbness or weakness elsewhere or any dizziness or loss of consciousness, then go to the ER.

No, I haven't been to a doctor yet, I've just started to realize this doesn't seem to be something that's going away so I plan on making an appointment but I'm gone for the next 2 weeks so wanted some ideas in the mean time.  I also didn't know if this was something that's serious enough to see a doctor or if someone had an easy answer for it...

It sounds like an issue with one or more of the nerves to your face. Have you seen a doctor yet?
