Even popping corn in a microwave can cause lung problems. Or living in a house that has mold.
Although smoking causes emphysema, you can get lung problems without ever smoking yourself. If you were raised in a home where others smoked....or if you are in an environment, e.g. public place, workplace, where smoking is permitted, you may have incurred a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) from second-hand smoke. Also, working in construction, with asbestos or other related materials, or other occupations where chemicals are present (fiber board, plastic manufacturing, etc) you may have damaged lungs without realizing it. Were you prescribed medication, and have you seen a pulmonary specialist or did your family doctor diagnose this? It is critical that you be under the care of a pulmonary specialist, as they can help you control the problem with proper medications, which only they know how to prescribe properly. Contact one ASAP.
Even if you have never smoked, if you have been in a smoky environment, you would be want is known as a "passive smoker".
In fact for every 7 cigarettes some smokes in the same room as you, you will have smoked the equivalent of 1 cigarette.
To help improve your lung capacity practice deep breathing and then controlling and slowing breathing out. Singing properly and doing exercises that get you breathing deep will help, unless your lungs are congested at the present time. If so, steam inhalations will help relieve any congestion.
Have you been told that you are asthmatic now?
was the lung test a peak flow?... a thick tube you blow into..?
I am 28 years only and I always struggle with the test.. I have to do it regularly for my job (oil rigs)
basically it does not mean you have the lungs of a 66 year old man... it only measures your lungs capacity not how well your using them
I measure really low on it but I can hold my breath for over 2 minutes so theres nothing wrong...actually quite the opposite
