Hi gen222, I am not a doctor but I have had my fair share of cosmetic procedures AND I had gastric bypass and lost 120 pounds. Stretch marks as far as I have heard cannot be fixed by any topical treatment, though they do look better when your skin is tanned so maybe a self tanner would help. If the stretch mark is very very wide plastic surgeons can resection these I believe and make it just a small line. They are doing great things with lasers these days too,so that may be a possibility. I had an abdominoplasty which removed extra skin in the stomach area and that removed a lot of my stretch marks coincidentally. I don't know if you have investigated any of these possibilities but maybe this will help.
Good luck, suzi120071
I am not sure where you're from but in the U.S., there's a product called "Mederma" and it is a "scar treatment" medicine as well that I have heard some people have used it to treat stretch marks as you describe. I don't know personally if it works though I am pregnant with our first child and planning on using it myself if I end up getting stretch marks on my stomach (I already have them on my lower back near my butt & some on my thighs but they aren't too bad).
In the meantime, I am trying to prevent getting them on my stomach by putting anything with cocoa butter on it. There is a brand called "Palmers" and it's a jar of oily lotion (kind of like hair gel or petroleum jelly) that I rub on my stomach everyday. I also put a regular type of lotion that has cocoa butter in it all over my stomach. So far so good but I'm not sure if it helps AFTER the fact when you already have stretch marks.
Lots of people have stretch marks though from various things -- my husband does & so did another guy I used to date -- and although I know how self-conscious it can make a person, there are much worse things that can happen to us in this world & there are people out there that will love us despite our flaws. Good luck in treating them and congratulations on losing weight--you should be proud of yourself!
