Sounds like costochondritis - pain in the tendons that connect the ribs.... you said you carry a heavy bag and ride uphill. I would imagine that would put a strain on those muscles and tendons causing pain in the rib cage and near the heart. Basketball players get this alot because of the way they catch and throw the ball....
It is also possible because you are worried, stress is causing you muscle tension in your chest, which would cause pain. You said it doesn't hurt when you are having fun, so that could be the problem. Try not to worry, and keep busy with fun things, and go for your tests. Think positive and keep happy.
Glad to hear that you will be having an echocardiogram shortly. This will confirm whether or not you have any problems with your heart.
The waiting time is the hardest, because it is naturally very worrying. I had to wait 3 months for my echocardiogram. I was sent to hospital to go on a treadmill to monitor my heart, but when the consultant heard a heart murmur he would not allow me to go on the treadmill. I had been going on the treadmill in the gym for months. I was shocked and yelled back at him "I don't want a heart murmur, I want to go on the treadmill". But they would not allow me on it.
The echocardiogram in my case was fine. I hope yours will be too.
My chest pains, which was the reason I was sent to check my heart out in the first place was due to asthmatic problems.
Hope you get on OK.
Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes.

You already know you have a heart murmur, and that means the your heart is not 100% healthy. When you go to your doctor, ask for a complete list of activities to avoid, foods to avoid, and any other precautions you should be taking. Make sure he knows you have had pain in your chest. This is one of those things that is the more you know, the better off you are. So, LEARN ABOUT IT, from your doctor, from the web, from the library. Then you can rest easy knowing how to take care of yourself in the best possible way. Blessings - Blu
The liklihood is the pain is pleuritic in nature, or perhaps costocondritis, sometimes caused by a virus but othertimes by strain or overexertion. These pains always go away after time. It is extremely unlikely you have had a so-called "heart attack". The odds are a million to one against that, considering your age and presentation. I urge you to get a physician's consult and ask your mom or dad about making an appointment. Treatment is usally rest and an NSAID such as Motrin.
