HIV/STDs from inserting someone else's used tampon applicator?

When I was a kid, I did something really stupid and took a used tampon applicator from a sanitary bin in a restaurant and put it into my own vagina. Is there any way I could have gotten something (but particularly HIV) from this? It would have been about 10 years ago.

So there was no risk of HIV?
Please re-read the advice given by GuitarRox. If you didn't do either of those activities, you aren't at risk for HIV.

You couldn't have gotten HIV this way.  You get HIV from unprotected vaginal or anal sex or sharing of IV drug needles.  Air would inactivate the virus so a tampon applicator would not transmit the virus.  No risk whatsoever.
