I took a test exactly at 81 days past exposure to a hiv positive person. Can I consider myself negative with my results being negative at 81 days after?
It was a number that they were confortable with after years of testing. The manufactures had to prove that 3 months was a conclusive time frame. But the senestivity of the tests are very good so while 3 months is conclusive and that is what we go by just about everyone will test positive by 8 weeks.
Hey Vance, do you know why the FDA chose 3 months? is that just a safe arbitrary number that they chose
The reason the 3 months is conclusive is because that is what was accepted and passed by the FDA. But some days are not going to make a different. In reality 8 weeks is considered conclusive by the Dr's on this site based on experience.
