18months of testing for HIV

Hi Medhelp , I decided to share my last post here to help any body worried sick after the window period of 3months.. I had an exposure August 2013 tested negative after 2months , 7months, 9months and now 18months and on top of that I'm just waiting for a 4th generation HIV test... I had a lot of symptoms after an exposure with a street worker (prostitude) swallen lymph nodes, rashes, itchy skin in several areas, toe fungus, etc... I was thinking about killing myself all this months and I even left my will and a suicide note for my family... The reason I'm writing this is to help any body that THINKS they are infected just based on symptoms.. Hope this can help people with high anxiety

You have no idea how happy this makes me bro. You did the right to go and get a second opinion. I wish you all the luck but I think you got a false positive God bless. Going through this myself, tested negative at 14 weeks and still feel depressed. God bless bro. This made my day.

Vince, why are you still testing, even after 18 months? I agree with Sharkboy, more chance that you are knighted King of England than you will come out HIV positive :-)

Do you still have symptoms, if so which ones?
Have you done any PCR tests or immunophenotyping (CD4 checks) to prove if the virus is in your body?

More chance you becoming King of England than you testing positive.

All the best.

I took both test at the same time... I took a pinger prick test called INSTI and it came back negative ... And I also took a 4th generation test but that won't comeback until a few days from now... But I did both to bury this once and for all.. I hope my story helps anyone with extreme anxiety

Both of you, Vince and Wantonhoe are HIV negative.
To keep testing over 3 month's with constantly negative result's simply make's no sense and could bring about a false positive (is this is what you want)?
It is good that Vince posted his a anxiety issue's to help other's, but both of you must put your HIV fears away or you end up mucking up your life's.

I wish you both all the best but you must move on and learn from this.

Wantonjoe, your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV.

Take care.

Hi Vince,
your post was really helpful. I feel like I too am locked in this depressing cycle, which involves: HIV testing >> negative result >> relief for a short time >> another symptom arises >> back to beginning of cycle.
I have tested negative 8 times upto 4.5 months post exposure. 6 tests were 4th gen DUO tests. But , even after the negative results, symptoms continue to  affect me so I am planning on taking another test shortly due to worrying symptoms.
You said you are "Waiting for a 4th gen test" - may I ask why you havent been able to shake your fear of HIV, even after 18 months of negative tests?

Vince, I'm so glad to hear this. You used to private message me about elite controllers and what not, and we discussed our anxiety towards hiv. Anyways, it took me a while to accept my results because of all the same symptoms, but with people like you and I explaining our stories, I hope it helps other people relieve their stress too.

I am from Sacramento California USA... You already tested negative after 15weeks, then you should be okay... Maybe for your peace of mind test one last time at 6months and let it go... But again you are good after 15weeks

Yash83 the worst thing you can do is look up HIV symptoms, don't surf the web. It will only make things worst, I know its hard to overcome the fear of HIV. I saw like 6doctors and they all thought I was crazy , and they were right.. Its been 18months no way are my test wrong. They are negative.. But they told me I was going to be okay after 3months and I didn't listen... This has destroyed a year and a half of my life...
