Catastrophic sex encounter with a sex worker. Hiv risk?

Hi,

I hope someone could help me in assessing my risk. I had sex with a csw in the philippines last july. The sex worker brought a condom but i didnt know its brand. It was just inside a plain orange wrapper. Then she let me put it on and gave me oral sex with the condom on. We then had protected sex . Two weeks after that I had mild fever at night a swollen lymph node at my right neck and got bilateral pneumonia which was diagnosed by my doctor as ptb. I am now on my tb meds. I am very worried if I have contracted hiv. Can this be seroconversion? Are there other condoms aside from lambskin that dont protect us from hiv? I am quite worried with the condom. I didnt see it broke. When i removed it my sperm was all inside the tip.could it be possible that the sex worker poked the tip that i may have not noticed? Please help me.I am really worried.

Thank you doc. One more thing. If a condom is tampered, can it be unnoticeable? Have you heard of a case of a top who got hiv from a single sexual encounter of a poked or tampered condom (since i didnt see it break) ?  If a condom is poked at the tip, would you be at risk?

If a condom has been tampered with.......such as being "poked" BEFORE it is put on an erect penis, you would not notice. But once it IS placed on a fully erect penis, the "poked" area would be stretched to the breaking point and you would have no doubt you were dealing with a failed condom.
On this forum we hear about condoms that fail all the time. We have no way of knowing if the condom had been "sabotaged" prior to sex. I seriously think you are letting your anxiety get the best of you here and the best way to avoid this fear is to supply your own condoms. Be safe. Be smart and most of all, relax.
Thanks doc, so if the poked area is stretched to its breaking limit by an erect penis, it would be noticeable right?
Yes. It would most likely burst as you were rolling it down your shaft.
Thanks doc, would my risk really be non existent, given the what ifs that I laid on you?

Lambskin condoms (also known as Sheepskins or just "Skins") are the ONLY condom I am aware of that does NOT protect against STD's. (This includes HIV) They are manufactured to prevent pregnancy ONLY.

Latex condoms, the least expensive and most accessible condoms at the moment, are designed to prevent the transmission of HIV and all other sexually transmitted diseases, as well as prevent pregnancy.

For those who are allergic to latex, male and female condoms made from polyurethane also provide protection from STD's and pregnancy.

Polyisoprene condoms, a fairly recent addition to the market, provide latex free protection and are being marketed for a more "natural feel." They protect against STD's and pregnancy.

I always advise people to use the highest quality condom from reputable manufacturers they can afford.
I also believe it is prudent to supply your own condoms so you KNOW you're using a quality product that has not been tampered with. That is one of the most frequent questions we get on this forum.......the fear a condom has been "compromised." This fear can be easily eliminated by providing your own and I also strongly suggest you bring more than one.

Hope this has allayed some of your fears.

Thank you ruby. I am feeling a bit better now. Do you know other condoms aside from lambskin that dont protect from hiv?

You had protected oral and protected vaginal and the condom did not fail.

NO RISK FOR HIV.......NO RISK FOR STD'S & NO NEED TO TEST FOR EITHER.

Lambskin condoms are made by only one manufacturer that I'm aware of, (Trojan) and are very expensive. I doubt Trojan would package them in a plain orange wrapper. I can't speak for what may be produced in the Philippines, but it seems highly unlikely a CSW would use a condom that could not only get her pregnant but sick.

Continue to take your antibiotics as prescribed for the PTB and work on getting your anxiety under control. You do not have HIV.

I hope you feel better soon.
