they get an hiv test is so to check whether you have hiv or not before taking pep. it is not a test tgat test whether you got hiv from this exposure. you can talk to your doctor about the dosage of pep. new pep drugs have not so strong side effects.
I am at around 23 hrs after exposure.I went to a doctor today. He told me to get a couple of std related tests done including hiv 1&2 serum R. He told me that if there is infection it'll show up in the tests and that would be a good indication though I will need to do it again at 4 weeks.
This is quite contrary to what I've been reading here and elsewhere. I was quite keen on getting on PEP but he was not in favor of it citing the fact that the exposure was very low risk and pep has strong side effects. He has told me to speak with him tomorrow morning once my results are in and then he will be able to say if pep is required. If it is, I'll only be able to start it near the 48 hr mark.
Im quite confused about this.can any test even provide an indication in this short a duration? Should I get another reference? This is a doctor in a leading hospital chain in India. I feel I should start on pep asap even if it reduces a low risk minutely. Any suggestions?
discuss that with your doctor
Do you think PEP is warranted in this situation? Also what do you think of the reliability of the RNA in 10 days. I will be going in for the Duo Combo in 28 days but for piece of mind (or complete despair) thinking of the RNA on the 10th day as well
low risk(vaginal intercourse), but get tested, likely to be negative result.
