Condom broke - but not sure if I was in penetration! HIV Risk?

Hi all,

I was having sex with a female sex worker, with protection. When we switched position, I asked her to lay down in the bed on her belly, legs together. Then I started to position my penis to reach her vagina from the back, then she yelled "the condom broke!", she heard the 'snap' of the latex, I think. I immediately pulled out and went to the bathroom, removed the broken condom and used soap and water to clean my penis. If there was exposure, it was less than half second. But I am not sure if there was any exposure at all, as I asked her "was there any penetration yet?" and she said "no, it was just going thru the butt chicks/thighs"... She is a very friendly female sex worker that I know from a few times.

But, then I started some paranoia, because she is so friendly and kind, so I thought "if I was indeed starting to penetrate her but she said so just to calm me down?"  If I indeed have started penetrating her and the condom broke, it was less than half a second of exposure, there is ANY risk at all?  I've looked in the internet and very very short exposure times like have virtually no risk.

Then I've asked about her health, and she said, as a female sex worker, is a norm (of the house she works for) to do periodic screening tests for HIV and other things.

It is not the first time that this happened, first time was in 2009 and was in fact during penetration and condom broke - then I had to go to all the stressing waiting of the screening tests - fortunately nothing was detected. However it left me with a tremendous anxiety regarding sex, which is getting worst and worst as new incidents (like this one described above) are happening, even though the female sex worker said that there is nothing to worry about...

The question is: how to deal with this anxiety?  I'm starting to refrain from penetration in most of my sexual activities, because it's becoming annoying the thought of "what if the condom breaks?" (even knowing it's rare and possibly because of improper use).

Yes, during and after the condom collapse there was no penetration, even after her affirmation I can confirm also because there was no wet and warm direct sensation to my penis skin typical of condom collapse and exposure during penetration (yes, as I've said, I had already experienced a condom collapse during penetration in 2009).

Even so, I was worrying about this small skin rash in the penis, with worries like "if some vaginal fluid got there somehow?".

Anyway, I need to relax. I think I can't bear the burden of waiting the weeks before the test, I start somatizing things, and I've been already screened for depression, anxiety and OCD. Posting in forums seeking some relief could even be related to my OCD in fact.

But thanks again for your attention.

The damage to your penis is not a worry,it was the penetration that i was concerned about but as you have expressed there was none which means that your safe and no testing is required.

Thanks. Well, I've asked her again and she is sure there was no penetration at that point when the condom broke, actually. But my current worry is that we were in the middle of intercourse (just switching position) and after inspecting my genitals, I've found that the head of my penis was displaying a very small skin rash (in the part called 'corona'), probably caused by the attrition during the (protected) part of the intercourse.

This is my current worry: even if the condom collapse was outside of her vagina, this small attrition damage in my penis is causing all sorts of anxiety scenarios. :(

The condom had to break somewhere and you would have known if you penetrated her or not.We don,t have a crystal ball here to know what happened, only you can answer that.If you did penerated her just briefly then its a small risk with the condom failure and testing is required,if you didn,t then there is no risk and no testing is required. Its that simple.
