HIV Symtoms after 8 months & Wife Pregnant

Hello

I am based out of Mumbai and had an exposure with sex worker. My condom slipped off and to my knowledge my penis may have gone in for a brief moment. I had an elisa test last in May 2009 which was 8 months from exposure & it was negative. However my symptoms all began after 8 months such as one lymph node behind my ear - confirmed by ENT, b12 deficiency confirmed by GP, low grade fever, weight loss. My wife too has experienced rash on her forehead. We are now expecting our first child and I pray not to have infected her and my kid. Somebody please help me. The worry is killing me.

Your negative test out rules any stats by far. You do not have HIV

One last question - most responses in the site by the doctors & forum members pertain to queries from the US & Europe. You know Mumbai / India does rank high in HIV and most CSW's are infected. A study states that HIV among CSW in Mumbai is about 50%. Do you still believe that a single exposure that I had would come under the 1 -1000 category ?

Finally, I just hope to sign off with some good words from you members. You all know better than me and again apologise for repeating myself. God bless all

Just about every thing you can think that happens to our bodies when one has had a risk seems to lead to HIV over the internet, kinda like I have this symptom so I must have HIV.
Try to stop, and remember your negative.
Good luck with your new addition!

This is Medhelp and we don't use 6 months or 12 months.

Hello again - Reputed sites like Medhelp & The body do suggest 3 to 6 months as conclusive depending on type on exposure. Is 12 months testing ever required ? Also I understand that b12 deficiency & anemia is common in HIV, I have never experienced this is past but until recently after my exposure. I don' t mean to repeat my concerns, but this lapse in judgement has changed my life. I just want to live normal and do not want to be the cause of passing the infection to my wife & kid. This was my first & last such incidence

ELISA tests are good enough.

Thanks Teak & hope 242 for your comments. I did read on the internet that swelling below the ear pertains to "parotid swelling" and it is very common in HIV. It represents as a non painful lump. Does Mumbai use advanced Elisa testing ? The lab just told me it is ELISA. Have the tests changed from 2009 to 2011

You are HIV negative. You tested 8 months post exposure, way past the window period of 3 months, and your results will not change.

You don't have an HIV concern, you have a conclusive negative test result.
