Could i have HIV

My partner and I are thinking of starting a family so decided to get tested for everything before we go for it.  The last time I had unprotected sex was 11 years ago and I've had no symptoms.  However, I went for a blood test today and, though they told me over the phone that it would a fast result test, now it seems like it's going to take up to 4 weeks for the results to come back... The wait is driving me mad, so much so that I'm actually considering paying a lot of cash to do the test in a private clinic which gives the results within 5 minutes...  Am I being ridiculous and paranoid?  How likely is it that I could have had the HIV virus for 11 years and been asymptomatic?
Thanks!

Fairly unlikely, you may need to contact the particular NHS clinic/department where you got the test results done, there may have been a mix up of some sort, I'd always go private but that's beacuse the public system can often let you down.

Hi and thanks for your reply...  Not quite sure what you mean though cos I am afraid here, I live in London by the way, it is possible for the test results to take up to 4 weeks to come back... Back log on the NHS and so on... Regardless though, do you know how likely is it that I could indeed have HIV even though it's been 11 years since I last had unprotected sex?  Thanks!

There are no HIV tests that take that long to obtain the results.
