HIV - Rapid at 39 days

Hi, first of all - excellent forum. Well done.

I had a high risk exposure 8 weeks ago, I got tested at around 39 days ( nearly 6 weeks ). The test the doctor used was a Hexagon rapid test, he drew blood from my arm and the result came back as negative. He told me its near enough to 99% accurate but to come back at 3 months.

I'm just anxious as I have never heard of this HIV test before and I am fearing a positive if I return at 12 weeks. Can someone please shed some light on this... I cannot relax at all

Obviously by "US citizen" I was referring to you actually LIVING in the USA.

When we refer to USA approved tests, we generally accept that 6 weeks is a pretty good indicator and 12 weeks is a confirmation. If you scope out the doctor's forum you will see that they are generally very confident with 6 week test results.

However, I'm not sure about this whole "foreign test" debacle. Are you a US citizen? If so, you should probably test with an FDA approved test. If not, and the test is approved wherever you're from - then you have a good indicator of your probable results.

I had receptive anal sex with a guy, although he did not ejaculate inside I found out afterwarrds he may be HIV pos. Not sure though.

Like I said got rapid HIV at 6 weeks and told it was negative but now scared when I go back at 12/13 weeks it will be pos.
