i agree with the p24 bit, but my doc told me that the duo looks for antibodies as well so at 3 mts it would be as good as any test for antibodies (hopefully)

thanks

No a P24 is only good 1-3 weeks post infection and it is not a stand alone test to begin with. It has to be followed up with an antibody test. It doesn't matter if you were detected early or not. If you think that you might be infected you should be using condoms until you and your partner are confirmed negative. But then again if one was using condoms correctly and consistently they won't be needing testing. All in all it doesn't matter which test is used when it comes to treatment. No one that is recently infected will need to start HAART medications to begin with.

I am not point out about window period. I meant p24 is verymuch better than ELISA at 3 months.

P24 has a short window period, has a high risk of cross containation and false positives.

I agree with Teak and Lammaxii. 3 months test is conclusive.  But HIV DUO test gives more confident and reliability

In other words, This test is best, if you want to know initial status before 4 weeks of last exposure.

A conclusive negative test is still 3 months. There are no tests maketed to give a conclusive negative result earlier than 3 months. Don't confuse the early detection with conclusive negative.

Its means tht if avg time is considered as 21 days. These 4th Gen will reduce this period to 17 days (Avg) detect HIV.

Note: Detectable antiboides are produced from 2 weeks to 8 weeks. This period is good to detect HIV.

HIV DUO is New Generation Rapid Test can detect P24. As accurate as ELISA.
P24 will reduce time. Avg time to produce antibody is 21 days. Thus said that, NORMALLY DUO can able to detect HIV earlier than 21 days.

Earlier ELISA were designed to detect Antibody. But 4th Gen/ ELISA can detect both Antibody and Antigen P24. They also quite good and bit more accurate than RAPID

I personally disagree.  I feel that an antibody test (ELISA) is the way to go as far as testing goes.  Plain, simple, and very accurate.
