No it is not the only test that can be taken in Ontario. You have the MEIA test which is the ELISA test in the US. You have several approvals for rapid testing also.
and Ive also read MANY replies and forums that say its not approved, I did take the time to read it
any bllod work from the doctors office is tested with HIV duo we also use INSTI rapid...thats it
Is the only test used in Canadian? No...
We don't say it's not approved. Had you took the time to read the replies, they say a conclusive test is 3 months post exposure.
why do you guys say on here its not approved? Its the only test they use in canada...all HIV tests are automatically done using HIV duo
Wrong. The US uses the DUO test and the Canadian guidelines are the same as ours.
Im not saying the guidelines are different I know I need to be tested at 3 mths...I was simply asking how assuring a p24 test is at 1 week, thats it
well we use hiv duo...you guys dont so it is different
Canadian testing is NOT any different than that of the US. Canadian government uses the same testing guidelines as the US. The US did use rapid testing before Canada but it is also approved there.
Yes it should help waiting 3-4 weeks after exposure would be best. We use American guidelines here, so while we can give advice you can also follow your Dr's recommendations.
the canadian testing is different....they said 1-3 wks today so I was tested at 7 days and will go back at 3 mths. Im having alot of anxiety over this which is why Im asking but we are in 2 different countries so 2 different opinions. Would 7 days be somewhat assuring?
That is not an approved diagnostic test in America. While it's use has been approved the standard is still 3 month antibody and that is what we must recommend.
So no matter what make sure you have a 3 month antibody test. The Duo test at 4 weeks is a very good indication.
I understand I need to be re tested at 12 weeks but what is the wondow period for the P24

LIMITATIONS OF THE PROCEDURE
• A test result that is nonreactive does not exclude the possibility of exposure to or infection with HIV-1 and/or HIV-2. Nonreactive results in this assay for individuals with prior exposure to HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 may be due to antigen and antibody levels that are below the limit of detection of this assay.

Post-test discussion
The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be
discussed. Although fourth generation tests shorten the time from exposure to seroconversion a repeat test
at three months is still recommended to definitively exclude HIV infection.
Hi Vance, my doctor will be testing me again next week. He says I need to before the 3 week mark for the duo.
You can test 3 months post exposure to obtain your conclusive test result.
condom broke, 2 unprotected sex incidents -no ejaculation-only lasted about 2 minutes
Lets start with...what was your risk?
