HIV - Rapid at 39 days

Hi, first of all - excellent forum. Well done.

I had a high risk exposure 8 weeks ago, I got tested at around 39 days ( nearly 6 weeks ). The test the doctor used was a Hexagon rapid test, he drew blood from my arm and the result came back as negative. He told me its near enough to 99% accurate but to come back at 3 months.

I'm just anxious as I have never heard of this HIV test before and I am fearing a positive if I return at 12 weeks. Can someone please shed some light on this... I cannot relax at all

Teak was not being rude, but just trying to make sure you got the right test done. You never mentioned taking a Hexagon HIV test, just a rapid test. He was clearing that up for you, trying to help.

And the only way you will know how accurate your test was is if you go back at the 3 month mark. It's not 100% accurate at 6 weeks. 3 months is the right amount of time to go back.

I think you need to be tested again.  I don't know what type of test that is, or what it tests for, but if the doc suggested a second test, do it.
